Foreword

The beginnings of Be'er Sheva and even her name has to do with a water crisis! Such problems have existed in our region from time immemorial.. So, a dispute erupted between the shepherds of Abraham and those of Avimelech, king of Gerar on account of the waters of a well each side claimed belonged to them… The dispute came to a settlement on the spot, reinforced by an oath to testify to the fact that Abraham had dug the well. Hence the name Be'er Sheva (a well of oath or a well of seven).

Introduction

  • Avraham Avinu and his significance in world history

  • In our world today there are a lot of values that we take for granted: the value of human life, doing others good, justice and law etc. This was not always the case. Some 3700 years ago the world sank into idolatry, bloodshed, violent, wanton taking possession of others belongings etc. And then came a man from the city of Ur Kasdim, the territory of today's Iraq, and it all changed. With Avraham our Forefather appeared in the world values that until today have been the foundations of human civilization. He was the first to get people to believe in One G-d. He is father to the people of Israel. He laid the foundations for the three monotheistic religions, first and foremost Judaism

  • We feel that today again there is a need to reinforce these values

It was exactly here, in this simple desert setting, free from all disturbances, that Abraham our Forefather found a place for contemplation about Hashem's oneness and for prayer. Our Sages of blessed memory in the Midrash mention that Abraham's tent had an opening on each side, pointing to the four corners of the earth, so as not to bother wayfarers with finding the entrance. This was the first instance of hospitality in the world. This geographical location remained the inheritance of his son Isaac and grandson Jacob as well. In later periods, the place turned into the Southern center of the Land of Israel. Recently the city is experiencing a huge momentum of development. All walks of life are changing at a dizzying pace: Be'er Sheva is turning again into a center in sciences, technologies, tourism, transportation, etc. Our project is destined to join this process, and the light of Avraham Avinu's lighthouse shall surely help attract the greatest aliyah ever and make the Negev desert bloom, also by way of this indeed world-ranking tourist and cultural project. The gateway to peace that is opening before our eyes towards the Gulf's Arab states is supposed to reinforce this process. On the following pages we are delighted to present before you the unique architectural concept and spiritual content of our project.

  •

  • About the site

  • For the project, we have chosen a location with a spectacular view of the Be'er Sheva River Park and Sara Valley, named after Abraham's beloved wife; also in the vicinity of the Design Plus complex. The site covers approximately 26 dunams. We shall need to negotiate with the owner, Shikun V'Binui Company. An alternative site could be at Melacha street, close to "Abraham's Well". Owned by real estate developer David Zagdon, it is available up to 32 dunams.

The Project

  • shall consist of a hotel/residential complex and a conference and museum complex, the former including 4 buildings named after the four corners of the world: North, South, East and West, connected by one roof on top with a lighthouse rotating 24 hours around its axis, beckoning to all Jews in the world to come to the Promised Land; signaling that the time has come for the 12 tribes to obey the call of Hashem, our great G-d to go up to Eretz Yisrael as one community.

  • In front of the main entrance, a shooting fountain (probably the highest one in the world, 75 meters) shall be implemented, symbolizing the Well of Avraham and the flourishing of the Jewish nation.

Description of the individual buildings of the main complex:

  • Each of them shall consist of 26 floors, connected by picturesque arched bridges at mid-height (the 13th floor) and further bridges starting from each building and converging at the midpoint of the complex. At the same level, a cafe shall be situated at the internal side of each building. In one or two buildings (subject to consulting the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality and a possible feasibility study) shall be the hotel rooms, and in the rest, the residential apartments. On the ground floor of each building, a restaurant serving food from countries found in that particular corner of the world shall be opened. On the same ground floor a closed lobby shall be situated with a reception and management section and, last but not least, a synagogue.  On the second level (on a gallery) of the ground floor, a panoramic view of ancient Hebrew archeological sites in the Be'er Sheva area shall be displayed. On the basement floor a conference bar shall operate.

The conference and museum complex

  • a 3-floor building, connected by a passageway at 1st floor level to the hotel. On the ground floor there shall be a concert hall and a reception to host delegates.

  • An elevator shaft shall be added.

  • The 2nd floor shall constitute a museum/exhibition hall of heritage, spanning all the history of the Jewish people and their ethnic cultural treasures.

  • the 3rd floor: restaurant and events hall.

  • a swimming pool shall serve the hotel's guests in a separate building.

  • AVRAHAM AVINU NATIONAL AND HISTORICAL CENTER, BE'ER-SHEVA

  •

  • Foreword

  •               The beginnings of Be'er Sheva and even her name has to do with a water crisis!

  • Introduction

  •

  • Be'er Sheva and its uniqueness

  • It was exactly here, in this simple desert setting, free from all disturbances, that Abraham our Forefather found a place for contemplation about Hashem's oneness and for prayer.

  • The Project

  • Description of the individual buildings of the main complex:
